US Mission to India Breaks Records with Student Visa Demand

The US Mission to India has seen an unprecedented surge in student visa applications, with a record-breaking 3900 interviews conducted on Student Visa Day. This marks a significant increase from previous years, solidifying the United States as the top destination for Indian students seeking higher education.

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti extended his best wishes to Indian students, acknowledging their hard work and academic excellence. He emphasized the potential of these students, stating, “Each student is an ambassador for India, and together we are taking the US-India relationship forward!”

Minister-Counselor for Consular Affairs Russel Brown highlighted the Department of State’s commitment to prioritizing students and facilitating their travel. Despite a 400% rise in demand for all other visas between 2021 and 2023, the Mission has expanded the student visa season to meet the growing demand.

“This year, as Indian students are poised to become the largest group of international students in the United States, the Department of State and our EducationUSA colleagues are excited to welcome student visa applicants on Student Visa Day and throughout the student season.”

As per data received from Embassy, 69% of Indian students prefer a US education, making the United States the number one higher education destination. Indian students in the US go on to gain valuable experience, receive employment-based visas, or become leaders in their fields in India, reflecting the lifelong benefits of a US education.

In 2023, the US Mission to India issued more student visas than in 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined. This year, the Mission anticipates continued growth in student visa applications from India.
