US and India Boost Joint Research with $2 Million Grant for AI and Quantum Technologies

The US and India have taken a significant leap forward in their joint research endeavors, announcing over $2 million in grants for 17 projects focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies.

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti and Dr. Seth Center, Acting Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technologies, made the announcement alongside India’s Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh and other officials in New Delhi.

U.S. Ambassador Eric Garcetti highlighted the importance of technology cooperation between the two nations. “India and the US have a vision of technology that can connect and protect their people and be used as a force for good.  The endowment fund is bringing together innovators because, as I often say, the Indian dream is the flip side of the American dream, and vice versa, and we really like each other.”

The grants, awarded under the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund’s “Quantum Technologies and AI for Transforming Lives” program, will support projects tackling critical challenges such as AI-assisted early cancer detection and scalable quantum computers.

This collaboration marks progress under the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and demonstrates the countries’ shared vision of technology as a force for good.

Dr. Seth Center said “partnership between the United States and India is key to shaping the future of these and other emerging technologies so we collectively remain at the leading edge of innovation.  We must ensure that they are developed and used with respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and support sustainable development around the world.”

The US and India also announced an additional $1 million in support for joint research in advanced materials and critical minerals, expanding collaboration between US and Indian universities, national laboratories, and private sector researchers.

This initiative builds upon the existing US-India science and technology cooperation, further solidifying the countries’ partnership in driving innovation and societal impact.
