University of Haifa Design Students Embark on Cultural Exchange in India

New Delhi: The Embassy of Israel facilitated cross-cultural exchange in the field of fashion and design, as students from the University of Haifa’s Fashion Design Department concluded a nine-day study trip to India.
The group headed by Dr. Rachel Getz Salomon and lecturer Tamara Efrat, the students participated in an intensive program of workshops, research, and creative collaborations, exploring the intersection of heritage craft and contemporary design.
In Delhi, the students collaborated with ‘Instant Karma’, a technology factory, to learn about sustainable design practices and create clothing sets combining hand-crafted pieces with technologically manufactured items. They also visited the JD Academy of Textiles and Fashion, where they attended a lecture, toured the campus, and participated in a batik workshop.
In Jaipur, the students immersed themselves in Rajasthan’s textile heritage, exploring the block-printing industry and participating in hands-on workshops, including tie-dye, embroidery, and local printing techniques.
Dr. Rachel Getz Salomon expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, stating, “India is an empire of inspiration for designers and artists… This is an unforgettable experience, and I hope this collaboration will continue.”
