Union Home Minister Calls for Closer Coordination Between ATS and NIA to Combat Terrorism

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired the second day of the National Security Strategies Conference – 2024 in New Delhi. He proposed a comprehensive strategy to enhance counter-terrorism efforts, including international cooperation and capacity building to prevent terror financing. Shah emphasized the need for increased cooperation between the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Anti-Terrorist Squads (ATSs) to strengthen counter-terrorism architecture.

Shah expressed satisfaction with the success of anti-Maoist efforts but cautioned states that had recently freed areas from armed formations to maintain vigilance. He appealed to state DGsP to work towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a prosperous, strong, and developed India by 2047.

Shah highlighted substantial progress in solving legacy national security concerns like Jammu & Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), and North-East. He emphasized identifying emerging national security challenges like narcotics, rogue drones, and online fraud and tackling them before they become major challenges.

Regarding the implementation of new Criminal Laws, Shah urged DGsP to protect citizens’ constitutional rights and ensure speedy justice for victims. He directed DGsP to constitute teams of young police officers to ensure the implementation of new criminal laws in letter and spirit.

Shah exhorted young police officers to apply strategic solutions to combat fraudulent financial transactions. He called upon DGsP to strengthen internal security architecture by embracing a multi-dimensional approach, data analytics, and new techniques, ensuring utilization of cutting-edge databases maintained by central agencies.
