Union Home Minister Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Meeting to Review Security Situation in Manipur
New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the security situation in Manipur.
During the meeting, the Union Home Minister reiterated the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur. Amit Shah emphasized the need for strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace and tranquility in the region. He assured that the forces would be increased if necessary to maintain law and order.
In a significant move to bridge the ethnic divide, Amit Shah announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs would initiate dialogues with both the Meitei and Kuki communities. This initiative aims to foster mutual understanding and harmony,
The meeting took place in New Delhi and was attended by senior officials, including Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Chief of Army Staff (Designate) Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, Director General of Assam Rifles, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, and senior officials from the Army and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
In addition to reviewing the security measures, Amit Shah also assessed the situation of relief camps in Manipur. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure the proper availability of essential supplies, including food, water, medicines, and other basic amenities, to those affected by the unrest. The Home Minister stressed the importance of taking strict legal action against individuals who engage in violence, highlighting the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards such acts.
Furthermore, Amit Shah instructed the Chief Secretary of Manipur to guarantee the provision of adequate health and education facilities for the displaced people, along with their rehabilitation.
He underscored the significance of addressing the needs of those affected to facilitate their smooth reintegration into society.
