Union Home Minister Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Meeting to Review Flood Management Preparedness
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting today to review the preparedness of flood management in the country. The meeting aimed to discuss long-term measures to formulate a comprehensive policy to mitigate the menace of floods.
During the meeting, Shah reviewed the action taken on decisions made last year and discussed the adoption of new technologies by agencies for flood management. He emphasized the optimum use of satellite imagery provided by ISRO for flood and water management.
Shah directed the timely implementation of advisories issued by NDMA for flood management and instructed the IMD and CWC to complete the process of recalibrating equipment used in flood forecast. He also directed a detailed study of recent floods in Sikkim and Manipur and the upgrading of forecast systems for better flood management.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Jal Shakti, CR Paatil, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, and senior officers from various departments.
Shah emphasized the need for a ‘Zero Casualty Approach’ in disaster management and stressed the importance of community awareness programs. He directed the integration of weather, rainfall, and flood warning related apps to benefit the targeted population.
The Union Home Minister also instructed the NDMA to prepare a detailed manual to deal with forest fire incidents and emphasized the need for regular creation of fire lines, removal of dry leaves, and mock drills.
The meeting aimed to ensure effective flood management and minimize damage to life and property.
