Two Bangladeshi Fishing Vessels Seized, 78 Fishermen Apprehended

In a major operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has seized two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers and apprehended 78 fishermen for engaging in unauthorized fishing activities within Indian waters.

According to a statement released by the ICG, the operation was carried out on December 9, 2024, when the ICG ship, while on patrol along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), detected suspicious activity within the Indian Maritime Zone.

Upon inspection, the two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers, “FV Laila-2” and “FV Meghna-5”, were found to be registered in Bangladesh with 41 and 37 crew members, respectively.

The trawlers were booked under the Maritime Zones of India Act, 1981, and escorted to Paradip for further investigation.

The operation demonstrates the ICG’s commitment to maintaining maritime safety, preventing unauthorized incursions, and preserving the integrity of India’s maritime boundaries.

The Indian Coast Guard has been actively engaged in preventing illegal fishing activities in Indian waters, and this incident highlights the organization’s efforts to uphold national interest in the dynamic maritime domain.

The apprehended fishermen and vessels are currently being investigated, and further actions will be taken in accordance with Indian maritime laws.
