Training Program on Human Rights and Media Held in New Delhi

A day-long training program on ‘Media and Human Rights: Issues and Challenges’ was jointly organized by the Indian Law Institute (ILI) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi

The program aimed to sensitize media personnel and Government Public Relations Officers (PROs) on human rights issues and challenges. It featured discussions on the importance of media in promoting human rights, accountability, and transparency.

Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, Law Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, inaugurated the program. She emphasized the crucial role of media in protecting and promoting human rights.

Other speakers included Dr. VK Ahuja, Director, ILI, who discussed human rights and their inherent nature in human beings. Sunil Kumar Gupta, former Superintendent of Tihar Jail, highlighted the media’s role in bringing about reforms in prisons.

Sudhanshu Ranjan, senior TV journalist, emphasized the importance of media in facilitating justice for victims of human rights violations. Devendra Kumar Nim, former Joint Secretary, NHRC, discussed the need for media to work with the NHRC to bring attention to human rights initiatives and advisories.

The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to Government PROs from Assam, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and other participants.
