Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, Commander of the Brazilian Navy, arrived in India on August 19 for a six-day official visit aimed at boosting maritime cooperation between the two nations. The visit underscores the commitment of like-minded navies to collaborate on shared maritime security challenges.
On August 21, Admiral Olsen called on Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, in New Delhi, where they engaged in discussions on operational engagements, technical cooperation, and training. The Brazilian Navy Commander was received with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns.
The Indian Navy and Brazilian Navy have a history of cooperation through various initiatives, including operational interactions, training cooperation, and participation in multilateral forums like MILAN and IBSAMAR. The bilateral defence cooperation is facilitated through the Joint Defence Committee, steered by the respective Ministries of Defence.
During his visit, Admiral Olsen is scheduled to meet with key Indian defence officials, including the Defence Secretary, National Maritime Security Coordinator, and Vice Chief of Army Staff. He will also visit the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram and interact with defence industry representatives.
In addition to New Delhi, Admiral Olsen will visit Mumbai, where he will meet with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, and tour indigenous warships and submarines, the Naval Dockyard, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
This visit is expected to further strengthen the maritime ties between India and Brazil, fostering greater cooperation and collaboration in the face of shared security challenges.
