Rajnath Singh Meets Chinese Defence Minister at ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh met with Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Vientiane, Laos, marking a significant milestone in India-China relations. This meeting follows the recent disengagement agreements and the historic meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit . The discussion centered around rebuilding trust and understanding, emphasizing cooperation over conflict.
Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of fostering friendly relations between India and China, highlighting that as the world’s two largest nations and permanent neighbors, their cooperation would have a profoundly positive impact on global peace and prosperity.
Indian Defence Minister said that “we need to focus on cooperation rather that conflict”.
He stressed that instead of focusing on conflict, both countries should prioritize cooperation, reflecting on lessons learned from past border clashes and taking measures to prevent their recurrence .
Rajnath Singh urged for a reflection on the lessons learned from the 2020 India-China border clashes to prevent future conflicts and maintain peace along the border. He emphasized the importance of de-escalation to foster greater trust and confidence between the two nations.
