PM Modi Inaugurates Global Cooperative Conference 2024, Launches International Year of Cooperatives 2025
In a significant move to promote cooperatives and empower millions of people worldwide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Cooperative Conference 2024 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The conference was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, and the President of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).
During the event, PM Modi also launched the United Nations’ International Year of Cooperatives 2025 and released a commemorative postal stamp. This move is expected to promote the cooperative movement globally and empower millions of poor people, farmers, and women.
In his address, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said that the United Nations’ decision to observe 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives is a timely step and will prove to be a blessing for millions of people worldwide. He also emphasized that the inauguration of the International Year of Cooperatives-2025 by PM Modi and the hosting of the International Cooperative Conference of the ICA in India is a welcome step.
Amit Shah also highlighted the progress made in the cooperative sector in India over the past three years, including the formation of new cooperative bodies and the strengthening of the legal framework. He emphasized that the Modi government is committed to connecting every village and farmer with the cooperative movement and has made numerous efforts to explore new areas and extend the scope of cooperatives.
The conference is expected to pave the way for the empowerment of millions of people worldwide, enabling them to live with dignity and respect. With the launch of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, India is poised to play a significant role in promoting the cooperative movement globally.
