PM Modi Commissions Three Frontline Naval Combatants, Boosts India’s Maritime Capabilities

Mumbai : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated three frontline naval combatants – INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer – to the nation, marking a significant milestone in India’s defense sector.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, coincided with Army Day, which is commemorated on January 15. PM Modi saluted the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers, congratulating them on this occasion.

The three commissioned vessels are a testament to India’s growing maritime capabilities. The INS Nilgiri, a frigate, is dedicated to the maritime prowess of the Chola dynasty, while the Surat warship, a destroyer, is reminiscent of Gujarat’s ports connecting India to West Asia. The Vagsheer submarine, the sixth in the P75 class, adds to India’s underwater capabilities.

PM Modi emphasized that the commissioning of these vessels marks a significant step towards enhancing India’s security and progress. He highlighted India’s commitment to an open, secure, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific Region and its emergence as the first responder in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of self-reliance in defense production, citing the success of the Make in India initiative. He noted that the armed forces have identified over 5,000 items and equipment to be domestically produced, boosting the confidence of Indian soldiers.

The commissioning of the three frontline naval combatants is a significant boost to India’s maritime capabilities, demonstrating the country’s growing prowess as a major maritime power. With this milestone, India takes another step towards securing its interests in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond.
