NSA Ajit Doval Co-Chairs Landmark Security Dialogue with Malaysia

New Delhi: In a significant development, India and Malaysia held their first-ever Security Dialogue in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Raja Dato Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin, Director General of the National Security Council of Malaysia.

The inaugural dialogue marked a crucial step forward in strengthening the security ties between the two nations. It provided a platform for both sides to engage in in-depth discussions on regional and global security issues, as well as review ongoing bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, defence, and maritime affairs.

India and Malaysia agreed to deepen cooperation in combating terrorism and deradicalization efforts. They also recognized the importance of cyber security and agreed to enhance cooperation in this area. The two nations explored opportunities for cooperation in the defence industry, including joint production and development of defence equipment.

Maritime security was another key area of discussion, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation in this area, including joint exercises and patrols. The importance of critical minerals and rare earths was also discussed, with the two nations agreeing to explore opportunities for cooperation in this area.

To ensure continued cooperation and communication, both sides agreed to institutionalize the dialogue through annual meetings. This will provide a regular platform for India and Malaysia to discuss security issues and deepen their cooperation.

The inaugural Security Dialogue builds on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between India and Malaysia during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August 2024. This partnership marked a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The India-Malaysia Security Dialogue is expected to further strengthen the bond between the two nations, promoting peace and stability in the region. As India and Malaysia continue to navigate the complexities of the regional security landscape, this dialogue will play a vital role in enhancing their cooperation and addressing common security challenges.
