NIA Cracks Down on Suspects in Visakhapatnam ISI Espionage Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at three locations in Gujarat and Maharashtra on Friday, targeting suspects involved in the 2021 Visakhapatnam Pakistani ISI espionage case. The case involves the leakage of classified defense information and suspects receiving money from Pakistan to spy on Indian defense establishments.
NIA teams searched the residences of the suspects, seizing incriminating materials such as mobile phones and documents. The agency is examining the seized materials to identify more linkages in the case.
The case was originally filed by the Counter Intelligence Cell, Andhra Pradesh, in January 2021 under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, and Official Secrets Act, 1923. NIA took over the case in June 2023 and has filed multiple chargesheets against accused individuals, including Pakistani nationals.
Investigations have revealed a conspiracy to leak sensitive information pertaining to the Indian Navy, with the aim of unleashing terrorist violence in India. The NIA is continuing its investigation to uncover further details and apprehend additional suspects.
