Mumbai Prepares to Welcome Historic Italian Ship Amerigo Vespucci

Mumbai: The city of Mumbai is set to witness a historic moment with the arrival of the iconic Italian naval training ship Amerigo Vespucci. The ship will dock in Mumbai from November 28 to December 2, 2024, marking its maiden voyage to India.

The visit of the Amerigo Vespucci to Mumbai marks a major milestone in its 93-year journey, as it sets foot in India for the first time. This momentous occasion is poised to fortify the bonds between India and Italy, fostering a rich exchange of culture, commerce, and innovation.

As the “most beautiful ship which is
a masterpiece of Italian architecture and engineering, will be joined by Villaggio Italia, a global showcase celebrating the finest aspects of Italian culture, innovation, and excellence.

During its five-day stay, the ship will be open to the public, offering a rare glimpse into its stunning interiors and Italy’s rich maritime heritage. The event will also feature an exhibition showcasing Italian culture, innovation, and excellence.

The “World Tour – Villaggio Italia” initiative, championed by Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and backed by 11 Ministries, along with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, seamlessly integrates the Amerigo Vespucci’s traditional training and naval diplomacy endeavors with the showcase of exceptional Italian products and expertise in key ports worldwide.

The visit of the Amerigo Vespucci is a significant moment in India-Italy relations and is expected to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

In Mumbai, the 28th port of call for the Amerigo Vespucci World Tour and the fifth stop for Villaggio Italia, a high-level Italian delegation will be in attendance, comprising Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Undersecretary of State for Defence Matteo Perego di Cremnago, Italian Ambassador to India Antonio Bartoli, Italian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Enrico Credendino, and Luca Andreoli, CEO of Difesa Servizi.
