Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” Comes to New Delhi

New Delhi: A production of Wolfgang Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” is being presented in New Delhi on March 8, at the Bahá’í House of Worship. The production is a collaboration between the Neemrana Music Foundation, the Austrian Embassy, and the German Embassy.
The opera tells the story of Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue Princess Pamina, facing various trials and challenges along the way. The production features an ensemble of Indian opera singers, led by Maestro Guido Johannes Rumstadt from Germany and directed by Indian theatre director Santanu Bose. The costumes have been designed by renowned fashion designer Rajesh Pratap Singh.
“Mozart’s music is an integral part of Austria’s cultural legacy, and it is wonderful to see The Magic Flute being brought to life in New Delhi. This production highlights the richness of opera as an art form and provides a unique opportunity for Indian audiences to experience the magic of Austrian classical music at its finest.” said Katharina Wieser, Ambassador of Austria to India.
The performance will be presented in German with English dialogues. The Neemrana Music Foundation has been promoting Western classical music and opera in India for over two decades.
Speaking about the cultural significance of the production, Philipp Ackermann, Ambassador of Germany to India, added
“Opera is a universal language that transcends borders, and The Magic Flute is one of Mozart’s most profound works. It is inspiring to see such a production staged in India, showcasing the deep rooted artistic and cultural exchanges between our countries.”
The event aims to bring together music lovers and provide a unique cultural experience. The production is expected to showcase the richness of opera as an art form.
