Ladakh’s Most Remote Village, Phobrang, Gets Airtel 4G Connectivity
Airtel 4G Network Inaugurated in Phobrang Village, Ladakh
Phobrang village, nestled in the remote borders of Ladakh, has become the first to receive 4G network services from a private service provider, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and digital empowerment in the region.
In a significant milestone for digital connectivity in remote border regions, the Airtel 4G network was officially inaugurated in Phobrang Village, Ladakh, on August 21, 2024. Chushul Councillor Konchok Stanzin launched the network, marking a crucial development for the previously unconnected area.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including 118 Brigadier Rana, Rajput CO Col. Dobey, army officers, and local community members. This achievement is a result of collaborative efforts between the District administration, Indian Army, villagers, and the area councillor.
The successful establishment of the network was made possible through coordinated contributions. The area councillor provided a Solar Power Plant to support the tower, while the Indian Army laid the Optical Fiber Cable (OFC). The villagers constructed a battery bank, and Airtel installed the network tower.
Villagers expressed their joy and gratitude for finally receiving mobile network services after decades of isolation. Councillor Konchok Stanzin thanked all contributors, including the Deputy Commissioner, Santhosh Sukhedeve IAS, and the Airtel team for their commitment to expanding the 4G network.
In his remarks, Councillor Konchok Stanzin said, “My sincere thanks to each and every one involved in making this project a reality. Special thanks to the Deputy Commissioner, Santhosh Sukhedeve IAS, for his unwavering support, to Fire and Furi for providing 5 km of OFC, and especially to the Managing Director, Territory Operations JK&Ladakh, the General Manager, and their team for their commitment to expanding Airtel’s 4G network to this farthest border village. Your efforts in bringing connectivity to the most remote areas are highly commendable.”
This development marks a new chapter for Phobrang Village, opening up opportunities for economic growth, better access to services, and enhanced communication for residents.
