Korea and India Unite in Colorful Celebration

New Delhi: The Korean Cultural Centre India recently hosted a unique and joyful celebration of the Holi festival, blending Indian and Korean traditions. The event introduced Indian audiences to the Korean concept of ‘Obangsaek’ or the ‘Five Cardinal Colours’, a traditional Korean colour scheme that plays a significant role in various aspects of Korean life.
The celebration was a vibrant cultural exchange between Korea and India, as participants explored the meanings behind the colours in both traditions. Indian and Korean participants applied vibrant colours to each other, danced to popular Holi songs, and wore traditional attire, including the Korean ‘Hanbok’.
Hwang Il Yong, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, highlighted the deep cultural significance of colours in both India and Korea. “Just as Holi in India symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the joy of togetherness through vibrant hues, Korea’s Obangsaek represents harmony in the universe, balancing the five cardinal colours with nature and philosophy.”
The event showcased the shared appreciation for colours between Indian and Korean cultures, celebrating life, tradition, and unity through the language of colours.
