Joint Military Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN Begins in Japan

The Indian Army contingent departed for the 6th edition of the India-Japan Joint Military Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN, scheduled to take place in Japan’s East Fuji Manoeuvre Training area from February 24 to March 9, 2025.

The Indian contingent comprises 120 personnel, primarily from the MADRAS Regiment, along with troops from other arms and services. The Japan Ground Self Defence Force contingent, of similar strength, will be represented by the 34th Infantry Regiment.

Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN focuses on joint planning, tactical drills, and disaster response strategies to enhance operational capabilities and combat skills. The exercise reinforces the India-Japan relationship, fostering strong military-to-military ties and promoting cultural understanding.

The exercise sets the stage for meaningful professional engagement, highlighting the unwavering commitment of both nations to broader defence cooperation.

This annual exercise, conducted alternately in India and Japan, aims to enhance interoperability between the two forces in joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under UN mandate.
