INS Talwar Docks at La Réunion, Boosts India-France Maritime Ties
La Réunion, France: The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Talwar, arrived at La Réunion on October 27, 2024, as part of its ongoing deployment in the Indian Ocean Region. This strategic visit aims to bolster the India-France partnership in tackling regional maritime security challenges.
The INS Talwar’s visit underscores the deep and enduring strategic partnership between India and France, which have traditionally enjoyed friendly relations and cooperation across multiple domains.
During its port visit, the INS Talwar will engage in cross-deck visits and interactions with the French Navy, fostering greater interoperability and understanding between the two naval forces. Earlier, the ship was opened to visitors from the Pravasi Bharatiya community on October 27, 2024.
Commissioned on June 18, 2003, INS Talwar is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command. Currently commanded by Captain Jithu George, the ship has demonstrated its capabilities in multilateral exercises, including the recent IBSAMAR VIII held in South Africa.
This visit highlights India’s commitment to collaborative maritime security and its growing partnership with France. As the two nations continue to work together, their cooperation will play a vital role in ensuring regional stability and security.
