India’s Police Forces to Adopt SMART Approach, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 59th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar on November 30 and December 1, 2024. During the conference, PM Modi emphasized the need for SMART policing, urging police forces to become strategic, meticulous, adaptable, reliable, and transparent.

PM Modi also expressed concern over the potential threats posed by digital frauds, cybercrimes, and AI technology. He called upon police leadership to harness India’s double AI power of Artificial Intelligence and ‘Aspirational India’ to convert these challenges into opportunities.

The conference witnessed in-depth discussions on various security challenges, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, cybercrime, economic security, immigration, coastal security, and narco-trafficking. Deliberations were also held on emerging security concerns along the border with Bangladesh and Myanmar, trends in urban policing, and strategies for countering malicious narratives.

PM Modi suggested holding a National Police Hackathon to leverage technology in solving key problems. He also emphasized the need for expanding focus on port security and preparing a future plan of action.

The conference was attended by top officials, including the Union Home Minister, Principal Secretary to PM, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Ministers of State for Home. Over 750 officers from various states and UTs also participated virtually.
