Indian Navy’s Latest Survey Ship INS Nirdeshak Ready for Action
Visakhapatnam : The Indian Navy is set to commission its newest survey ship, INS Nirdeshak, on December 18, 2024, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
INS Nirdeshak, built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Kolkata, boasts an impressive 80% indigenous content, showcasing India’s expertise in ship design and construction. The ship’s commissioning is a significant milestone in the Indian Navy’s efforts to promote self-reliance and Aatmanir Bharta
The 110-meter-long vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art Hydrographic and Oceanographic Survey Equipment, enabling it to conduct hydrographic surveys, aid in navigation, and support maritime operations. With a displacement of approximately 3800 tons, INS Nirdeshak is powered by two diesel engines and has an endurance of over 25 days at sea.
The ship’s crest symbolizes India’s maritime sovereignty and technological prowess, featuring a hydrographic survey ship cutting through waves, utilizing advanced navigation and communication systems, and state-of-the-art sub-surface sensors.
