Indian Navy Trains Royal Saudi Naval Forces Trainees in Afloat Course
76 trainees from the King Fahd Naval Academy of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) successfully completed their Afloat Training Course at the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy on July 18, 2024.
The three-week training program, held at Kochi, consisted of both harbor and sea phases. The harbor phase focused on simulator-based training in navigational, firefighting, and damage control aspects, while the sea phase provided hands-on experience in ship handling, communication procedures, and seamanship evolutions.
In addition to the training, the RSNF trainees participated in sail training at the Watermanship Training Centre and onboard INS Tarangini. They also engaged in cultural exchange activities, including visits to historical sites and friendly sports fixtures with Indian trainees.
The participation of RSNF trainees alongside Indian Naval trainees of the 107 Integrated Officers Training Course (IOTC) has significantly contributed to enhanced friendship and bonhomie amongst the trainees of both maritime nations.
During an event marking the culmination of the training, Rear Admiral Upal Kundu, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, interacted with the trainees and Directing Staff of RSNF. The trainees shared their sea experiences, and the directing staff expressed appreciation for the high-quality training imparted.
The valedictory function onboard INS Tir saw the presentation of course completion certificates and alumni badges to the trainees. A course memoir highlighting the journey of the trainees was also unveiled.
The successful completion of two successive training courses (2023 and 2024) with enhanced participation underscores the growing maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.
