Indian Navy Successfully Rescues 9 Crew Members from Capsized Oil Tanker

In a daring rescue operation, the Indian Navy’s mission deployed warship INS Teg has successfully rescued 9 crew members from the capsized Oil Tanker MV Prestige Falcon. The tanker had overturned approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman on July 15, 2024.

The Indian Navy sprang into action, rendering Search and Rescue (SAR) assistance in coordination with Omani authorities since the morning of July 16, 2024. The rescued personnel include 8 Indian and 1 Sri Lankan national.

The MV Prestige Falcon had a total crew of 16, comprising 13 Indian and 3 Sri Lankan nationals. The search and rescue efforts are being undertaken in challenging weather conditions, with rough seas and strong winds prevailing in the area.

The Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft, P8I, is also actively engaged in the search for survivors. The rescue operation is a testament to the Indian Navy’s commitment to protecting lives at sea and its capabilities in undertaking complex search and rescue missions.

The Indian Navy remains vigilant and continues to search for the remaining crew members, working closely with Omani authorities to ensure the safety of all personnel involved. This successful rescue mission highlights the strong cooperation between India and Oman in ensuring the safety of mariners in the region.
