Indian Navy Prepares for Cyclone Dana Relief Efforts
The Indian Navy is gearing up to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations as Cyclone Dana threatens the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. In anticipation of the severe impact, the Eastern Naval Command has activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism in coordination with Naval Officers-in-Charge in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.
The Navy has dispatched essential supplies, including clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency relief materials, to key locations via road. Flood Relief and Diving Teams are on standby for coordinated rescue and relief operations. Two Eastern Fleet ships are prepared to provide support from the sea, equipped with supplies and rescue teams.
The Indian Navy is working closely with units like the Base Victualling Yard, Material Organisation, and the naval hospital INHS Kalyani to provide necessary support. This proactive approach ensures the Navy’s readiness to support civil authorities and those affected by Cyclone Dana.
The Indian Navy remains on high alert, monitoring the situation closely and standing ready to extend its support to the affected regions. Its annual joint HADR exercises demonstrate its commitment to effective disaster response, promoting interoperability among participating nations and regional naval capacities.
With its experience in rendering HADR assistance, the Indian Navy is well-prepared to address the challenges posed by Cyclone Dana.
