Indian Navy Bids Farewell to UH-3H Helicopter After 17 Years of Service

The Indian Navy bid farewell to the UH-3H helicopter, at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam, marking the end of an era in Indian Naval Aviation. The de-induction ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, and attended by veteran officers, sailors, and families.

The UH-3H helicopter, inducted into INAS 350 ‘Saaras’ in 2009, has played a crucial role in various operations, including Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), security of offshore installations, special operations, and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions. Its advanced capabilities and logistical support have saved countless lives during natural disasters.

The helicopter’s service has been marked by its motto “Strength, Valour and Perseverance.” As it reaches the end of its service life, one UH-3H will be displayed prominently in Visakhapatnam, inspiring future generations. A commemorative plaque was handed over to the state government to mark the transfer of the aircraft.

The UH-3H helicopter will be replaced by the Sea King 42C helicopter at INAS 350, ensuring continued operational power and capability. The Indian Navy acknowledges the UH-3H’s remarkable service and its contributions to the nation’s maritime security.
