Indian Naval Ship Tabar Reaches Alexandria, Egypt

In a significant gesture of friendship and cooperation, the Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, arrived at the historic port city of Alexandria, Egypt, for a goodwill visit that will last until June 30, 2024.

This visit is part of INS Tabar’s ongoing deployment to Africa and Europe, and aims to strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Egypt, particularly in the areas of defence and maritime cooperation. The two nations have a rich legacy of cultural and economic relations that date back centuries, and have been expanding their cooperation in various sectors in recent years.

INS Tabar, a stealth frigate built in Russia, is commanded by Captain MR Harish and has a crew of 280 personnel. The ship is equipped with a range of weapons and sensors, and is among the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy.

During its three-day stay at Alexandria, the ship’s crew will engage in professional interactions with the Egyptian Navy, including harbour exercises and social engagements. The two navies will also conduct a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea, aimed at consolidating their interoperability and strengthening their ability to conduct combined operations against common maritime threats.

This visit reaffirms India’s commitment to deepening its bilateral ties with Egypt and enhancing various aspects of maritime security. The Indian Navy’s outreach to Egypt is a testament to the strong bonds between the two nations and their shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.
