Indian Coast Guard Enhances Surveillance in Indo-Bangladesh Maritime Border

In response to the recent political developments in Bangladesh and the emerging situation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has heightened its surveillance measures in the Region. The ICG has strategically positioned its operational units to robustly monitor the area and prevent any attempts of illegal migration through sea routes.

Surface surveillance has been intensified along the Indo-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) by deploying Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs). Additional FPVs have been added to create a layered surveillance system, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the area.

All units at sea have been instructed to monitor and board fishing boats, verifying the identities of Indian fishermen. This targeted approach ensures the safety of Indian citizens while preventing potential illegal activities.

Sea-air coordinated aerial surveillance has been augmented along the IMBL, with Coast Guard aircraft operating from Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. Enhanced aerial coverage, particularly during dawn and dusk hours, enables the tracking of suspicious contacts.

Additional assets are on standby at Paradip and Haldia for immediate deployment in case of subversive activities. Electronic surveillance is maintained for all close coast transferring contacts, with interrogation and necessary coordination with agencies and stakeholders to prevent potential infiltration or landing points.

Thus far, no instances of infiltration or suspicious activities have been reported on the maritime front. The ICG will maintain its enhanced surveillance measures until the situation improves and stabilizes, ensuring the security and integrity of India’s maritime borders.
