Indian Army Thwarts NSCN(IM) Recruitment Bid in Upper Assam

In a significant operation, the Indian Army foiled a major recruitment attempt by the NSCN(IM) faction in Tinsukia District, Assam, preventing four local youth from joining the insurgent group. The army’s swift action was based on specific intelligence and close coordination with Assam Police.
The individuals, who were misled by an active NSCN(IM) cadre, were instructed to board a train to Dimapur from New Tinsukia Railway Station on July 12, 2024. However, Indian Army personnel and Assam Police set up a surveillance network at the railway station, apprehending the four individuals as they attempted to board the train.
The youth have been warned by police authorities and handed over to their families. This successful operation not only prevented the youth from falling prey to the insurgent group’s agenda but also exposed the illegal recruitment network operating in the region.
In anthother, the Indian Army and Assam Police have successfully dismantled a significant extortion network operated by the NSCN(IM) in Upper Assam. The joint operation, launched in multiple areas of Tinsukia District, resulted in the apprehension of five key individuals involved in channeling extortion money to NSCN(IM) cadres.
The operation began with the surveillance of a tea garden owner who had received an extortion threat of Rs 10 Lakhs from an NSCN(IM) cadre. The first Over Ground Worker (OGW) was apprehended, leading to the capture of four more linked individuals, disrupting the entire extortion chain.
