Indian Army Special Forces Contingent Departs for Indonesia for Joint Exercise ‘Garud Shakti’
New Delhi: The Indian Army’s 25-member special forces contingent departed for Cijantung, Jakarta, Indonesia, to participate in the 9th edition of Exercise Garud Shakti 24, scheduled from November 1-12, 2024.
This bilateral exercise aims to enhance cooperation, mutual understanding and interoperability between India’s Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and Indonesia’s Special Forces Kopassus.
“The Exercise will involve planning and execution of special operations, orientation to advance special forces skills, sharing of information on weapon, equipment, innovations, tactics, techniques & procedures.” As per Defence Ministry statement.
Joint Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 will also involve Special Forces Operations in Jungle terrain, strikes on terrorist camps and a Validation Exercise integrating basic and advance special forces skills apart from gaining an insight into the lifestyle and culture of both countries to foster military cooperation.
The Exercise Garud Shakti 24 brings together India’s elite Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and Indonesia’s renowned Special Forces Kopassus, comprising 25 and 40 personnel, respectively.
This joint exercise aims to foster interoperability, mutual understanding, and cooperation between both nations’ special forces.
By sharing operating procedures, tactics, and techniques, the exercise promotes bilateral military cooperation, strengthening bonds between the two armies through discussions and tactical military drills.
Exercise Garud Shakti 24 demonstrates India’s commitment to regional security and cooperation with Indonesia, reflecting their growing defense ties and shared commitment to stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
