Indian Air Force Joins Exercise Pitch Black 2024 in Australia

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has dispatched a contingent to Australia to participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2024, a multinational air exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The exercise, which takes place from July 12 to August 2, 2024, aims to enhance international cooperation and strengthen air combat capabilities.

The IAF contingent, comprising over 150 personnel, including pilots, engineers, and technicians, will operate the Su-30 MKI fighter jets, C-17 Globemaster, and IL-78 Air-to-Air Refuelling aircraft. This exercise provides a platform for the IAF to integrate with other air forces and share best practices.The IAF contingent will be operating alongside other fighter aircraft like the F-35, F-22, F-18, F-15, Gripen, and Typhoon.

Exercise Pitch Black 2024 is the largest edition in the exercise’s 43-year history, with participation from 20 countries, over 140 aircraft, and 4400 military personnel. The exercise focuses on Large Force Employment warfare and aims to enhance the ability of participating nations to deploy over long distances, support integrated operations in the Indo-Pacific region, and build strong aviation associations.

The IAF has previously participated in Exercise Pitch Black in 2018 and 2022. This year’s exercise promises to be a significant opportunity for the IAF to strengthen its capabilities and build strong relationships with other air forces.
