India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise MITRA SHAKTI Commences
India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise MITRA SHAKTI began on Monday at the Army Training School in Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka. The exercise, scheduled to run from August 12 to 25, 2024, aims to enhance joint military capabilities in counter-insurgency operations.
Indian and Sri Lankan Contingents
The Indian contingent consists of 106 personnel from the Rajputana Rifles, along with representatives from other arms and services. The Sri Lankan contingent is represented by personnel from the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lankan Army.
Objectives and Focus
The joint exercise, conducted annually in alternating locations, focuses on operations in semi-urban environments. Tactical drills will include response to terrorist actions, establishment of joint command posts, intelligence and surveillance centers, securing helipads, small team insertion and extraction, special heliborne operations, cordon and search operations, and employment of drones and counter-drone systems.
Enhancing Inter-Operability and Cooperation
Exercise MITRA SHAKTI enables both sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting joint operations. It facilitates developing inter-operability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between the two armies, enhancing defense cooperation and bilateral relations between the two nations.
