India Signs Rs 10,147 Crore Defence Contracts to Boost Military Capabilities

New Delhi: In a major boost to its military capabilities, India has signed two significant defence contracts worth Rs 10,147 crore with domestic companies.
The contracts, signed by the Ministry of Defence, are for the procurement of advanced munitions for the PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The deals were inked with Economic Explosive Limited (EEL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL) in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The contracts include the procurement of Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM) from EEL and High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets from MIL. These advanced munitions will significantly enhance the Indian Army’s firepower, enabling precise and long-range strikes.
The procurement of these advanced munitions marks a significant milestone in the modernization of the Artillery Rocket Regiments. The contracts are expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities, encouraging the Indian MSME sector through components’ manufacturing.
In addition to the two contracts, a deal was also signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for upgrades in the SHAKTI Software, a critical system for enhancing command and control operations within the armed forces.
The signing of these contracts is a significant step towards modernizing India’s defence infrastructure and empowering indigenous industries, aligning with the Government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
