India, Nigeria Unite Against Global Terror Threats

In a significant move to bolster their strategic partnership, India and Nigeria held the Second Strategic and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in New Delhi from November 4-5, where Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, met with India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit K. Doval.

The two leaders had in-depth discussions on combating terrorism, extremism, radicalization, and international crime, including arms and drug smuggling, as well as cyber threats. They reaffirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms, emphasizing that no justification exists for terrorism.

This dialogue led to the identification of specific areas of cooperation to their fight against terrorism. Both nations agreed to enhance cooperation in bilateral capacity building and strengthen cooperation in the international arena. The goal is to promote regional stability and combat terrorism.

India and Nigeria have enjoyed warm bilateral relations for decades, with Nigeria being India’s largest trading partner in Africa. Indian companies are also the second-largest employer in Nigeria after the Federal Government. Economic cooperation has been growing, with Nigeria becoming India’s largest trading partner in West Africa.

During his visit, Ribadu also visited the National Security Guard premises in Manesar, showing Nigeria’s interest in learning from India’s counter-terrorism expertise. This strengthened partnership is expected to enhance regional stability and promote economic growth.

As India and Nigeria’s relationship continues to grow, both nation is all set to increased cooperation in various sectors, including enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism operations, bilateral trade and investment and Collaboration on cyber security and technology development

The discussions centered around threats to democratic societies from terrorism, extremism, and radicalization, as well as international crime and piracy.

By working together, India and Nigeria aim to promote regional stability and security, addressing the complex security challenges facing Nigeria today.
