India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise “NOMADIC ELEPHANT” Commences in Meghalaya

The 16th edition of the India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise “NOMADIC ELEPHANT” began on July 3, 2024, at the Foreign Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya. The exercise will be conducted from July 3 to 16, 2024.

The Indian contingent, comprising 45 personnel, is represented by a battalion of the SIKKIM SCOUTS, along with personnel from other arms and services. The Mongolian contingent is represented by personnel from the 150 Quick Reaction Force Battalion of the Mongolian Army.

The exercise aims to enhance joint military capabilities in counter-insurgency operations in a sub-conventional scenario under the United Nations Mandate. The training will focus on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, including tactical drills such as response to terrorist actions, establishment of a joint command post, and employment of drones and counter-drone systems.

The exercise will enable both sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures, developing inter-operability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between the two armies. This will further enhance defense cooperation and bilateral relations between the two nations.

Dignitaries attending the exercise include Dambajavyn Ganbold, Ambassador of Mongolia to India, Major General Prasanna Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area of the Indian Army, and Major General Gyanbyamba Sunrev, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mongolia.
