India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue: Strengthening Strategic Ties

New Delhi is set to host the 3rd India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue on August 20, 2024, with Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar welcoming their Japanese counterparts, Defense Minister Kihara Minoru and Foreign Affairs Minister Yoko Kamikawa.

The dialogue aims to review bilateral cooperation, explore new initiatives, and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. A bilateral meeting between the Raksha Mantri and his Japanese counterpart will also take place on the sidelines of the 2+2 dialogue.

India and Japan share a ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ based on shared values of democracy, freedom, and rule of law. Defense cooperation has emerged as a vital pillar in this relationship, with the strengthened partnership crucial for ensuring a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

This visit is expected to further deepen defense cooperation and bring greater depth to the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations. The previous India-Japan 2+2 dialogue was held in September 2022 in Japan, and this upcoming meeting is anticipated to build upon the progress made since then.
