India-Israel Partnership Establishes Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The Embassy of Israel in India has announced a significant milestone in the India-Israel collaboration on integrated water resource management. A Joint Statement of Intent has been signed to establish a Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras, marking a tripartite agreement between the Embassy of Israel, IIT Madras, and the AMRUT mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Shared Commitment to Water Management

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing India’s critical water management challenges. The Center of Water Technology aims to become a hub for innovation, research, and capacity-building in water technologies, focusing on sustainable solutions for urban water supply.

Capacity-Building Course

To initiate this collaboration, a capacity-building course on “24/7 Water Supply in Urban Areas” was organized at IIT Madras from August 5 to 8, 2024.

Ambassador Naor Gilon’s Statement

Ambassador of Israel to India, Naor Gilon, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to addressing water scarcity and management challenges. The Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras is a testament to our strong partnership, and we look forward to developing innovative solutions that will benefit millions in India.”

The Embassy of Israel in India said, “Dedicated to fostering cooperation in water technology and management. The new center is expected to contribute significantly to India’s efforts to achieve sustainable water supply for all”.

This partnership marks a step forward in addressing India’s water challenges, leveraging Israeli expertise and Indian research capabilities to create innovative solutions for sustainable water management.
