Historic Agreement Signed to End 35-Year-Long Conflict in Tripura

A Memorandum of Settlement was signed today in New Delhi between the Government of India, Government of Tripura, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), marking a significant milestone towards a peaceful and prosperous Northeast. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, and Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.
*A New Era of Peace and Development*
The agreement brings an end to the 35-year-long conflict in Tripura and paves the way for the development of the state. NLFT and ATTF have agreed to abjure the path of violence, lay down their arms, and disband their armed organizations. The armed cadres of NLFT and ATTF will also participate in the peaceful democratic process and maintain the integrity of the country.
*Government’s Commitment to Development*
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence in the Modi government’s vision of a capable and developed Northeast through peace and dialogue. He highlighted the government’s efforts to develop the entire Northeast, including Tripura, by combining the concepts of ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and ‘Purvodaya’. The government has approved a special package of Rs 250 crore for the overall development of the tribal population of Tripura.

*A Legacy of Implementing Agreements*
Amit Shah emphasized the Modi government’s legacy of implementing agreements in letter and spirit. He cited the example of the Bru-Reang agreement, which has enabled thousands of Bru-Reang brethren to live in their homes, study in good schools, and receive benefits from public welfare schemes.

The agreement marks a new chapter for Tripura, with over 328 armed cadres giving up violence and joining the mainstream of society. The government will make every effort to meet everyone’s expectations and work towards building an empowered Tripura.
