High-Level Coordination Conference Held in Kathua to Enhance Border Security

Kathua: A high-level coordination conference was held at Kathua of Jammu and Kashmir, to strengthen the security apparatus and enhance coordination among the Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab Police, and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The meeting aimed to review the current security situation and devise strategies to counter challenges.

“The primary agenda of the meeting was to conduct a comprehensive review of the current security situation and to devise robust strategies to counter the challenges.” said Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The conference focused on addressing the serious issues of cross-border smuggling, narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, and contraband. The officials thoroughly discussed recent seizures and intelligence reports, pinpointing key routes and methods used by smugglers. The meeting emphasized the need to enhance security measures, including fortifying checkpoints, intensifying frisking operations, and upgrading canine unit capabilities to effectively combat these threats.

The officers emphasized the need for coordinated patrolling, advanced technology deployment, and inter-agency cooperation to dismantle narcotics networks. They proposed strategic initiatives to augment the security framework and recommended regular joint training sessions and drills to foster better coordination and synergy between the forces.

The high-level coordination conference in Kathua was attended by top security officials including YB Khurania, Special DG of BSF Western Command, RR Swain, DGP J&K, Gaurav Yadav, DGP Punjab, RN Dhoke, Spl DG, IS, Arpit Shukla, Spl DGP Law and Order Punjab, Vijay Kumar, ADGP Law and Order J&K, Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu Zone, AK Digambar and DK Boora, IGsP BSF, Dr Sunil Gupta, DIG JSK Range J&K Police, SS Maan, DIG Samba Kathua Range BSF, Rakesh Koushal, DIG Border Range Punjab and other senior officers from BSF, J&K Police, Punjab Police and Central agencies.

Kathua, a district in Jammu and Kashmir, has experienced a significant terrorist attack. On July 8, 2024, an army truck was attacked by terrorists in Badnota village, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to six others. The attack occurred in a remote area with limited road connectivity. The terrorists, believed to be from Pakistan, used advanced weapons for terrorist attack including M4 Carbine rifles, grenades, and explosives. Investigations suggest a coordinated attack with local assistance. This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The conference demonstrated the commitment of the security forces to ensure the safety and security of the region. By working together, they aim to effectively counter security challenges and maintain peace along the border.
