Global South Cooperation: PM Modi, President To Lam Discuss Key Issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Vietnam’s State President and Party General Secretary To Lam, in New York on September 23, 2024, on the sidelines of the Summit of the Future at UNGA. This meeting marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Vietnam.

The leaders reaffirmed the importance of deep civilizational and cultural links between the two nations, highlighting growing strategic ties built on mutual trust, understanding, and shared interests. They discussed advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors like connectivity, trade, and culture, building on Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to India last month.

PM Modi congratulated President To Lam on his enhanced leadership role and expressed hope for continued collaboration. He also reiterated India’s solidarity with Vietnam following the devastating Typhoon Yagi earlier this month. President To Lam thanked PM Modi for India’s timely humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts under Operation Sadbhav.

India and Vietnam have enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship, with a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The meeting between PM Modi and President To Lam underscored the importance of this partnership, emphasizing the need for enhanced collaboration on regional and global issues.

Both leader took stock of the full range of India-Vietnam friendship and discussed advancing momentum in sectors such as connectivity, trade, culture and more.This meeting demonstrates India’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with key global leaders and nations, further solidifying the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam.
