General Upendra Dwivedi Embarks on 4-Day Visit to Japan to Boost Defence Cooperation

General Upendra Dwivedi, India’s Chief of Army Staff, departed on a four-day visit to Japan today, marking a significant step in bolstering defence cooperation between the two nations. The visit, scheduled from October 14 to 17, aims to strengthen military cooperation and explore new avenues of collaboration.

Upon arrival, General Dwivedi will interact with Indian Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, and discuss India-Japan relations at the Embassy of India, Tokyo. He will then engage in dialogues with Japan’s senior military leadership, including Gen Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff, Joint Self Defence Force, and Gen Morishita Yasunori, Chief of Staff, Japan Ground Self-Defence Force.

General Dwivedi will also pay homage at the Memorial at the Ministry of Defense in Ichigaya and receive a Guard of Honour by the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force. Additionally, he will interact with senior hierarchy of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force and visit the National Institute of Defence Studies.

On October 16, General Dwivedi, accompanied by Gen Morishita Yasunori, will visit Fuji School, where he will engage in conversations with Lt Gen Kodama Yasuyuki, Commanding General of Fuji School. He will receive a briefing at the school and witness an equipment and facility display.

The final leg of his visit will take General Dwivedi to Hiroshima, where he will lay a wreath at Hiroshima Peace Park and pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s Statue.

This visit is crucial, given General Dwivedi’s extensive experience in military operations and technology integration. As the Chief of Army Staff, he has been instrumental in modernizing the Indian Army, with a focus on indigenous equipment and technology integration. His visit to Japan is expected to further enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations.
