From Naxal Hotbed to Healthcare Hub: Chintagufa’s Inspiring Story

Chintagufa Health Center Sets New Standards in Healthcare

Tucked away in the heart of Sukma, a district in Chhattisgarh, India, lies the village of Chintagufa. Once plagued by Naxal violence, this village has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to the tireless efforts of its healthcare team. The Chintagufa Health Center, established in 2009, has emerged as a beacon of hope, earning the prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification.

The health center’s journey began in a single room of a local school, amidst the looming threat of Naxal insurgency. Mukesh Bakhshi, the center’s first in-charge, played a pivotal role in its transformation, demonstrating unwavering dedication and commitment to providing quality healthcare services.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including attacks on healthcare workers and infrastructure, the team persevered. In 2011, Bakhshi’s calm resolve and commitment to service even saved the lives of children being transported in an ambulance, which was attacked by Naxal insurgents.

Today, the Chintagufa Health Center is a testament to the power of resilience and community-driven initiatives. The center conducts over 20 institutional deliveries monthly, handles more than 1,000 OPD cases, and admits over 100 patients regularly. Its success has earned recognition and accolades, including the Dhanwantari Award (2017) and the Health Icon Award (2019).

The Chintagufa Health Center’s NQAS certification is a significant milestone, recognizing its commitment to quality healthcare and its role as a model institution under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. With a score of 89.69%, the health center has demonstrated its adherence to quality standards, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

As Chintagufa continues to thrive, it serves as a beacon of hope for the region, demonstrating the power of dedication and community-driven initiatives. The village’s transformation from a hotbed of Naxal violence to a model of healthcare excellence is a shining example of what can be achieved through collective efforts.
