First BIMSTEC Business Summit to Foster Regional Collaboration and Boost Trade

The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), is set to host the inaugural BIMSTEC Business Summit in New Delhi from August 6-8, 2024. This landmark event aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote robust trade and investment relations among BIMSTEC member countries.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) comprises seven member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand. The Business Summit will bring together over 300 key stakeholders from across the region, including ministers, government officials, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry associations.

The event will be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, with Minister of Commerce and Industries Shri Piyush Goyal and other leaders delivering keynote addresses. The summit will focus on critical areas such as trade facilitation, regional connectivity, energy security, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.

India attaches great significance to BIMSTEC, recognizing its potential to foster economic collaboration and drive growth in the Bay of Bengal region. The Business Summit is a crucial step towards realizing this vision, providing a platform for member countries to explore opportunities, address challenges, and shape the future of regional cooperation.

Through this summit, India aims to strengthen its ties with BIMSTEC member countries, promote economic integration, and contribute to the region’s prosperity. The event is expected to yield meaningful outcomes, paving the way for a more connected and prosperous Bay of Bengal region.
