Dr. S. Jaishankar Strengthens India-UAE Ties with Official Visit

On June 23, 2024, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar embarked on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), building on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the G7 Summit in Italy.

During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to review the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation, including commerce, fintech, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. The ministers also explored new avenues for collaboration and discussed regional and global issues.

Dr. Jaishankar participated in the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi, which showcased the diversity of Indian culture. He also visited the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, inaugurated by PM Modi in February 2024, which has already received over one million visitors in less than four months.

This visit highlights the significance India attaches to its relations with the UAE, marking the continuation of high-level contacts between the two nations. The past year has seen significant milestones in bilateral relations, including the implementation of a local currency trade settlement agreement, fintech collaboration, and the setting up of an IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Jaishankar’s visit reinforces the strong bond between India and the UAE, paving the way for further strengthening of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
