Devastating Fire in Kuwait Claims Lives of 40 Indian Nationals

A terrible fire ripped through a labor housing facility in the Mangaf area of Kuwait earlier today, leaving a trail of tragedy. At least 40 Indian nationals are confirmed dead, with over 50 more injured.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is working diligently to gather information from local authorities and the company involved. Their deepest condolences are extended to the families of the deceased.

Those injured are being treated at five government hospitals in Kuwait: Adan, Jaber, Farwaniya, Mubarak Al Kabeer, and Jahra. According to medical professionals, most patients are in stable condition.

Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, promptly visited the fire site and hospitals to assess the well-being of Indian nationals. The Embassy is actively collaborating with Kuwaiti authorities to ensure all possible support reaches those affected by this disaster.

Following the Prime Minister’s directive, Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh is departing immediately for Kuwait. His mission is to expedite the repatriation of the deceased and secure medical assistance for the injured.

The Indian Embassy remains in close contact with Kuwaiti authorities to provide relief to those impacted. A helpline (+965-65505246) has been established for families to receive updates and connect with the Embassy (both calls and WhatsApp messages are accepted).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting to address the fire tragedy. He expressed his profound grief over the loss of life and offered his condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing a speedy recovery for the injured, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Indian government will extend all possible support.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, Minister of State Kirtivardhan Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other high-ranking officials participated in the meeting. The Prime Minister directed immediate action, including deploying a Minister of State to Kuwait to oversee relief efforts and facilitate the swift repatriation of the deceased.

Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of 2 lakh rupees to the families of each deceased Indian national from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
