India and EU Strengthen Ties in Space Exploration

New Delhi: India and the European Union (EU) took a significant step towards strengthening their cooperation in space exploration, as Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hosted a high-level EU delegation led by Commissioner Andrius Kubilius.

The meeting marked a crucial milestone in the India-EU space cooperation, with discussions focusing on ongoing and future collaborations in space exploration. Dr. Singh emphasized India’s achievements in space, highlighting its growth in the sector over the last decade.

“India has acquired independent capabilities in building, launching, and operating satellites, as well as deriving applications from these satellites to benefit society,” Dr. Singh said.

The minister also highlighted recent successes, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the SPADEX mission, and the ongoing progress of the Gaganyaan mission. He announced that India would be a major player in 21st-century space exploration.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been collaborating with the European Space Agency (ESA) and other European space agencies, with European industries contributing to India’s space program.

Dr. Singh also informed the delegation that ISRO will host the Global Conference on Space Exploration (GLEX) in May 2025, extending an invitation to European stakeholders to participate.

The meeting concluded with Dr. Singh expressing his delight at hosting the EU delegation and acknowledging the significant interest shown by Commissioner Andrius Kubilius in strengthening space cooperation.
