Indian Coast Guard Responds Swiftly to Fire Onboard Fishing Boat

New Delhi: A swift and effective response by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) saved the lives of 14 fishermen after a fire broke out onboard the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Ekvira Mauli off the Maharashtra coast.

At approximately 6:35 am on February 28, 2025, the ICG Ship Savitribai Phule, on patrol in the area, spotted thick smoke emanating from the horizon. The ship immediately proceeded towards the smoke and arrived at the scene at 7:15 am.

Upon assessment, the ICG ship found the IFB Ekvira Mauli engulfed in flames. The crew quickly responded, assisting in the evacuation of the 14 fishermen to another IFB, Dhana Laxmi. The rescued fishermen received medical attention for their burn injuries.

The ICG ship then commenced firefighting efforts, utilizing its onboard capabilities to extinguish the blaze within two hours. Following the successful firefighting operation, the ICG ship coordinated efforts to stabilize the distressed IFB by pumping out water and towing it to the nearest harbor.

The IFB Kalamba Mauli took the distressed vessel under tow, escorted by another IFB, Kalyani, towards Alibaug harbor. The incident highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to maritime safety and its rapid response capabilities in emergency situations.
