India, Oman Pledge to Enhance Cooperation in Trade, Defense, and Security

Muscat: India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, visited Oman to participate in the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.During his keynote address at the conference, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to address common challenges and promote prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

Dr. Jaishankar also held bilateral talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, to review India-Oman relations and explore new avenues for cooperation. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties in areas such as trade, investment, and defense.

Dr. Jaishankar also unveiled a specially designed logo to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. The logo was launched jointly with Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.

Dr. Jaishankar launched a book titled “Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman,” which highlights the rich history of the Indian diaspora in Oman and the centuries-old people-to-people ties between the two nations.

On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Jaishankar held bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from several countries in the region, including Brunei, Bangladesh, Iran, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, and Nepal. These meetings provided an opportunity for India to reinforce its commitment to deeper engagement with the Indian Ocean region and to discuss key regional and global issues.

The 8th Indian Ocean Conference, organized by India Foundation in association with Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together countries from the region to deliberate on regional affairs and promote cooperation for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
