HAL Unveils Upgraded Jet Trainer ‘Yashas’

Bengaluru : Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has unveiled its upgraded Hindustan Jet Trainer (HJT) 36, now renamed ‘Yashas’, at the ongoing Aero India 2025.

The upgraded trainer aircraft has undergone extensive modifications to enhance its performance and capabilities. According to HAL, the ‘Yashas’ boasts improved avionics, a modern cockpit, and enhanced operational efficiency.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Dr. D K Sunil, CMD, HAL, said, “The ‘Yashas’ is a significant milestone in our efforts to provide the Indian Air Force with a world-class training platform. Its advanced features and capabilities make it an ideal trainer for modern military aviation.”

The ‘Yashas’ is powered by a FADEC-controlled AL55I Jet engine and features a state-of-the-art glass cockpit with a head-up display. The aircraft is capable of performing a range of tasks, including Stage II pilot training, counter-insurgency, and counter-surface force operations.

With its enhanced capabilities, the ‘Yashas’ is expected to play a vital role in training Indian military pilots. The unveiling of the ‘Yashas’ is a significant milestone for HAL and underscores the company’s commitment to providing the Indian Air Force with advanced training platforms.
