Indian Navy’s Largest Maritime Exercise, TROPEX-25, Underway in Indian Ocean Region

New Delhi: The Indian Navy’s biennial Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX) is currently underway in the Indian Ocean Region. TROPEX-25, being conducted from January to March 2025. This exercise is the largest of its kind, involving all operational Indian Navy units, as well as substantial participation from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Coast Guard assets.

TROPEX-25 aims to validate the Indian Navy’s core warfighting skills and ensure a synchronized, integrated response to protect national maritime security interests in a contested maritime environment. The exercise involves complex maritime operational scenarios, including combat operations, cyber and electronic warfare operations, live weapon firings, and amphibious exercises.

A wide range of assets are participating in the exercise, including 65 Indian Navy ships, 9 submarines, and over 80 aircraft of different types. The indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant, state-of-the-art Visakhapatnam and Kolkata Class destroyers, and Kalvari Class submarines are also taking part.

Additionally, the exercise features participation from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Coast Guard, with assets including Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, C-130, Flight Refueller, AWACS aircraft, an Infantry Brigade with over 600 troops, and more than 10 ICG ships and aircraft.

TROPEX-25 is designed to enhance synergy and jointness amongst the Services, promoting coordinated planning, precise targeting, combat effectiveness, and credible joint operations in a dynamic environment.
